The FSCA and copy trading

3 min read · 3 November 2026

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is the authority that regulates how financial firms in South Africa deal with their customers. This page records what two public pages say about it in connection with copy trading, and a result that is a gap: this site did not find an FSCA statement on copy trading in the places it read. Read 6 November 2026.

What this site looked for

The FSCA publishes its warnings and releases on a news page. This site read that page and counted its titles. A scan of titles does not read the documents behind them, so a statement inside a release on another subject would not be found. The scan can only say what the titles contain.

What the scan of the FSCA news list found

The page https://www.fsca.co.za/Latest-News/ lists press and media releases by title. This site counted the titles and searched them for copy-trading words. Read 6 November 2026.

What the scan means

No title among 1,148 rows contains the words "copy" or "mirror". The titles do show a long record of warnings: 806 of them contain "warn", and 26 contain "forex". That is a count of words in titles. It is not a count of copy-trading cases, and this site does not infer that the FSCA has no view on copy trading. It says only that it has not found one on that page.

What the FSCA is, in a definition

The FSCA is South Africa's market conduct regulator for financial services. It keeps a public register of authorised financial services providers, and its news page carries public warnings against named firms and notices of licence actions. Those are descriptions of its pages, as they appear on the news list; the lists of regulated people and entities are on the same site.

Regulators printed on cTrader's broker list

The list prints regulators for each broker as short names. This site counted the entries that name the South African authority and read the one for FxPro. Source: ctrader.com/copy/brokers, read on 6 November 2026.

What the broker list says about regulators

The cTrader list prints regulator names for the brokers it carries, in its own words. 3 of the 24 copy-flagged entries name the FSCA among them. For FxPro it printed FCA UK; SCB - SIA Bahamas on 6 November 2026. This is the list's wording and was not checked against the regulators' own registers, which is why the paragraph on the FxPro page tells the reader to check the register.

How to look a firm up

Take the exact legal name of the company in the client agreement, not the brand name on the website. Search for it in the FSCA's register of regulated entities. Note the type of authorisation the register shows for it, and whether the entry mentions the activity you plan to use. If the company is not on the register, the register does not show it as authorised in South Africa. Writing to the FSCA is the way to ask about copy trading directly.

What this page cannot tell you

It cannot tell you whether copy trading through a given broker is permitted for a South African resident, or whether a provider needs authorisation to manage others' trades. Those are legal questions and the answers sit with the regulator and with the broker. This site records only that it did not find them on the pages it read.

The broker this site links to

This site links to FxPro, which cTrader's list marks as a copy-enabled broker. A copied trade is a leveraged contract on a price, not ownership of anything. Read the terms before you decide anything.
